Snow Buntings

During the winter the only bird that stays in Kotzebue is the Raven. You can see ravens around no matter how cold it is or how stormy it gets. I love ravens but I miss all the little birdies, so I was really excited when I saw a flock of snow buntings.

Maybe they come earlier and I just haven't noticed, but I usually expect to first see them in march so I was surprised to see them in January.

I saw a robin here in michigan yesterday -- is that the equivalent of your buntings? I wish I thought our sightings were really a sign of spring!

When I lived in Inuvik, I always felt that the first snow buntings were the REAL sign that spring was on its' way.

Maybe they were confused when the weather was 40 above!

We saw them too when we were out Sunday. Yay...

I know that all the snow buntings haven't gone that far north yet, because we've been enjoying watching a flock behind our house for the last few days. And we are WAY south of you!
