Barge Order Time

Photobucket
The time has come to make the yearly grocery barge order. Buying stuff this way can save you several hundred dollars. Our monopoly main local store, Alaska Commercial Company (AC), gouges us on prices (oh yes you do, don't even try to tell me that you don't, you greedy bastards) so you have to try and save wherever you can.

This year I ordered 666 lbs of stuff. I would have ordered more if I had the room to store it. As it is I am going to have groceries coming out of the woodwork at my house. The barge should get to Kotzebue sometime the third week of September.

Haha...please don't check my math....I probably messed it up somewhere.

*UPDATE*
Thanks to this post I realized that I forgot to order a half case of Sailor Boy Pilot Crackers. That would have sucked. New total 681 lbs of groceries for $937.47

Oh my goodness; you live such a different life up there. I cannot imagine planning what my household would eat for a whole year. Keep up the good work educating and informing us city folks. :)

Wow! It's been so long since I've seen the Spaz Alaska catalog!!!! I'm feeling pretty nostalgic about it.

Great pictures - how does the D40 handle the weather? I've been looking at a Nikon for the future and wondered about cold and damp. We have an AC out here in Dutch Harbor too - they are greedy bastards! Luckily we have a Carrs/Eagle as well or they would gouge us worse . . . great blog, I check it once in awhile but never comment, one of those lurker types, you know the deal . . .

So, i'm just wondering. Is there no store in Kotzebue where you can get anything during the winter? Or is it just cheaper to buy most of what you need through the barge delivery?

I had to Google an image of "Talking Rain". I couldn't for the life of me imagine what kind of food product that was. LOL! Now, I know.
