This looks like Heal-All (Prunella vulgaris) Other Names: Prunella, All-Heal, Hook-Heal, Self Heal, Slough-Heal, Brunella, Heart of the Earth, Blue Curls, Carpenter-weed, Common Selfheal, Consolida Minor, Lance Selfheal, Sicklewort, Woundwort.
I agree that it's not Jacob's Ladder. The leaves are similiar, but the flower head is entirely different. I'm not so sure it is Prunella vulgaris (heal all) either. The flower head is similiar but the leaves are different. I have an Alaska plant book around here somewhere but I can't find it. Maybe I will find it here later on.
Just want to put my name out there...lurking for a while, thought I'd let you know that I'm not a stalker...Trooper wife living in Nome.
I have to say that I'm ENTIRELY impressed that you've totally put yourself into the culture! AWESOME! Thanks for some of the native lingo (don't hear a lot of Inupiaq here, got a lot of Yupik in Bethel though). Thanks for sharing...love your photos!

My guess is Jacob's Ladder (polemonium boreale) the low growing variety of the Arctic.

I believe it is one of the milkvetches. They can be hard to tell apart without some sort of key.
A purple one. Did I win?
