Yesterday after work I took a ride down the coast with my friend Bree, her family. Her sister Jill is here visiting from upstate NY so they came along too. First we all had to stop for gas.
I think that the pump says it's $6.649 a gallong for gas now. It used to be $7.25 at this particular pump before the New load of gas came in off the barge at the beginning of the summer.
When we got down to the beach we realized that the water was pretty high. Here you can see Jill nervously pointing at it. She doesn't like driving through the waves. I think she thinks they are gonna suck us out to sea or something.
The tides in Kotzebue Sound are small but are greatly influenced by wind speed and diection. For example a strong south will cause a considerable rise in tide.
This day the wind was from the northwest-ish I think but the tide was still high.
So eventually we started to run out of beach and decided to head back to town.

Wonderful post, Cathy! Wish I could share our $2.39 per gallon gas with you! Notice it's already cool enough that you're wearing head gear. We dress that way in January here in Oklahoma!
