I love the fall colors on the tundra, so vibrant! And the Northern Shrike! Lots of birders would love to see that feathered friend! (I got to see one in Fairbanks in 2008!)
Have you had any "Termination Dust" yet? Pretty soon it will be sled dog time! Hike!
Kaija looks absurd on a leash in the middle of nowhere. Mind you it takes all sorts. My labrador ignores all wildlife all the time and has been known to graze lawns alongside Key deer. I would feel particularly odd leashing her in the back of beyond.

I can't remember your pups name. but I love the contrast of his black/white coat against Alaska's landscape. Just Beautiful:)
Her name is Kaija...pronounced KYE-yuh.
Lovely! And Kaija is just beautiful!

The bird is actually a Gray Jay. I don't believe I have ever seen a Northern Shrike around here.
No termination dust for us yet but it is 7:30am on 9/26 right now and it is 30F degrees.

She had to be on a leash because we were hunting caribou. Wouldn't do us much good if she chased them away :)
