Calm Before the Storm

.

Here are some photos I took last night of the clouds just before a rare thunderstorm hit Kotzebue. All I had was my cell phone so I took the photos with that. Thunderstorms in the arctic are not all that rare, but they usually occur farther inland where it gets hotter. This storm was a doozy by coastal standards, lots of thunder, lightening and buckets of rain.

This particular cloud was pretty freaky looking. My son asked me if it was a tornado. There was no visible rotation that I could see, so I didn't figure it was going to become anything serious.

Lovely new header, too!
Always intresting to have a look into your blog.
We had some special clouds here as well recently; I took cellphone snaps of them and will post them soon, too!
Have a great weekend

Strange enough to make you wonder, though.

Wow! From someone in TX who sees those more often than I'd like--that is a doozy. I would be watching the weather for tornado warnings and hiding in my house if I saw that outside. lol

Cathy,My son will be coming to Kotzebue in mid-August to do mission work with Bucky Sisler the pastor of one of the churches there in Kotzebue. I have turned him on to your blog and photography and asked him to get acquainted with you when he comes up there. His name is Leighten. He's an old high school buddy of Bucky's from Oklahoma. He's already communicaated with John Baker.

I've been following your blog for about 2-3 years. I really enjoy your comments and photos. If possible send me some type of small momento of Kotzeboe back with Leighton. Thank you ever so much.
