Walk to be Counted

.

I meant to post these photos yesterday but you know how it goes...life gets in the way. On Wednesday the Northwest Arctic Borough held an even called "Walk to be Counted" Basically it was a way to raise awareness of the 2010 Census. Kotzebue has had pretty poor participation in the census, only 49%. The Borough was trying to make the community aware of the purpose of the Census and how it impacts the funding that our community receives from federal sources.

There was prized for walkers, runners and bikers. There was also a cookout and door prizes. Around here we love our door prizes. THere was a contest for the kids who decorated their bikes. In all 242 people participated.
