Pickled Beluga

Yep, that's what this is. I love pickled beluga. It's good stuff.




Come on now, don't knock it til you try it. This was one of the many offerings at the Friend's Church craft bazaar today.




There was a fairly good turnout today. About the same as the one last weekend.




There was lots of things to look at.




This man was selling books. The book is called "Jesus and the Eskimo", by Fred Savok. I'm not sure if this man is Fred or not. I had never met him before, but I bought the book.

The Last Bite of the Elephant...

...taste better than the first. This is what one of my instructors said to me when I told him that I had bitten off more than I could chew this semester. I'm still trying to figure out who's frigging brilliant idea it was to take three classes this semester. I thought I had already learned my lesson on this. The semester is almost over for me, with the exception of two final projects. I just feel like I have lost all my steam.

So forgive my stagnant blog. I have not had much time for outdoor things. The daylight is short and low and during work hours. Not much to take pictures of. I never even took any photos in Anchorage because the weather was lousy.

On the upside there will be another craft fair this weekend and they are usually fun. I will be selling some photos again, the ones that I have left. I'll take a few photos of that. Uyaana has a Christmas program coming up.

So hang in there with me guys. This is the slow season. Pretty soon it will be dog racing time and you all will be sick to death of my zillions of mushing photos.

Jesus Christ Superstar.

Tonight I wen to see the opening night of Jesus Christ Superstar in Anchorage.

Let me start off by saying that the show was great. The house was packed. Ted was, of course, Amazing. It has been 15 years since I have seen Ted in JCS in Boston with Carl Anderson as Judas. Naysayers be damned. I have heard plenty of snarky comments about Ted being too old to be playing this role anymore, what with him being twice the age of Jesus. Yet even in his 60's, Ted's performance tonight was every bit as good as it was back then. Gethsemane was breathtaking with the high notes that we all wait to hear. His performance was what I expected, Ted giving it his all.

I guess the tour originally started out with Corey Glover, from Living Colour, as Judas. By the time they got up here Glover had been replaced by James Delisco. Originally I was disappointed when I found out about this but Delisco was brilliant. His voice was fabulous and he was a great Judas. I got to meet him after the show and when he asked me where I was from he seemed sincerely amazed that I had flown 550 miles from northwest Alaska down to Anchorage to see the show.

Cristina Sass was a lovely Mary. Her voice is sweet yet strong and she was a pleasure to listen to.

All that being said I do have one complaint. The sound system. I realize that this was opening night at a new venue, but they really need to get the sound levels straightened out. The music was excellent, but it often seriously overpowered Ted, Delisco and the others. The lyrics tell the story and they were often drowned out.

I waited for a while after the show to see if Ted would come out. The place was almost empty when I gave up and headed back to my car. That's ok, I don't mind. I met him once before, on his birthday in 1993 at JCS in Durham, NH. I don't know what I would say to him anyway except maybe "Thanks for the awesome show".

In the City

So, I'm in Anchorage for a few days.

I came down for knee appointments and will try and cram in the rest of my Christmas shopping at the same time. A few weeks ago I bought tickets to Jesus Christ Superstar. That will be Tuesday evening. I also bought a ticket to the Alaska Theatre of Youth production of Fiddler. They are just kids so I won't get into a big review about it. I will just say that it wasn't quite what I expected.

I remember earlier that there was something that I wanted to blog about, but now that I have the time I can't remember what it was. That is usually how it goes. I think of something and then it just seems to tedious to write it out, or I just plain forget.

Anyway, I have a few more photos from the second day of the catholic church bazaar. I will try to upload them in a little while.

Catholic Church Bazaar

It's time your the annual Christmas craft Bazaars here in Kotzebue. The first one, which started tonight and goes thru tomorrow is being held at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Being the on the ball kind of girl I am, I was totally unprepared. I ordered prints and they came in today, just in time. I brought them home to mat them and couldn't find my stash of mats anywhere. I looked and looked but only found a few of them.


Here is Uyaana manning the table so I could go get us some dinner. the Catholic Church does a mexican dinner. Chicken enchiladas, spanish rice, refried beans and tortilla chips. Whoever made that rice put huge chunks of garlic cloves in it. Yum.




You can find all sorts of things at the bazaars. Some people sell crafts while others sell trinkets and toys.

The craft fair also runs Saturday (I guess technically that is now today)from 10am to 4pm. If you are local make sure you stop by and check out all the stuff.

Free Rice

A friend of mine told me about this website, freerice.com. The premise behind the website is that you do this vocabulary quiz and for each answer you get right they donate 20 grains of rice through the UN World Food Program to help end hunger. I guess the site has been around for a while but this is the first time I have ever done it.

The highest level I got to was 50, but it didn't last long. I sunk down to 44 and stayed there until I lost interest. The scoring is really generous at first. You get answers right and you shoot up, but it's pretty unforgiving when you get some wrong. After losing points it's hard to get them back. I can play this for about 10 minutes before my attention deficit disorder starts getting the best of me.

Anyway, it's free and it's kind of fun, and it's educational. Give it a shot.
