Breakup

The ice is breaking up and moving out. This is the best time of year. It's not very dramatic right now, but when the ice really gets moving it can put on quite the show. It jumbles and piles up, sometimes into huge piles. Too bad I'm stuck in the office all day. When I look out my office here is the view that tortures me all day long. It is so nice out :)

Isingak

. The other day Ahna Lena and I took drive on the road behing Kotzebue. The dogs ran around and Ahna picked Labrador Tea on the tundra. While we were out there we saw several long-tailed jaegers. Ahna said that in Inupiaq they are called Isingak (IH-sing-uk. She said "We also used to call then 'shit hawks' in english. I asked "why is that?" And she replied, "I dunno, we just did". .

. I admit that yesterday was the first time I have signed into blogger for THREE MONTHS. Long time. When I signed in I had no idea what I was looking at....it's all changed. I almost couldn't figure out how to write a post. Serves me right I guess Anyway, here are a few photos of my three...yes three dogs. My pretty girl Kaija...AKA the Witch. Here's Rush...yep, he's back. And this is Iggy, AKA Little Pig.....more on him later. .

Spring is Chugging Along

. It's spring in the arctic! It happens every year, but every time it does it seems like a miracle. Today was chilly and windy, but at least it wasn't snowing :) Lots of water on top of the ice. Here you can see a big piece of ice that has broken up and shifted. It won't be long now. .
