The blueberries that grow on the tundra are low bush and very edible. They are quite like the blueberries that you see at high elevations in the Lower 48. They are very good to eat but are much more tart and smaller than the blueberries that you can find at the grocery store.
So, you have blueberries, too? The "smaller and more tart" part of your description above reminds me of what we called "huckleberries" where I grew up - similar to blueberries but smaller and more tart.
